Blog: (Re)opening my own shop!

My little shop, Handmade by Nellie, has evolved! As sales of my greetings cards went so well last year, and my creative endeavours such as resin crafts are continuing, I have decided to move the shop to a new platform. My hope is that, by doing this, I can spend less time managing sales and more time creating new work! I also hope that I will reach new audiences, and become a (somewhat) more professional seller. Folksy is a platform for artists, craftspeople and sellers across the British Isles, which champions the handmade and the homemade. It creates a supportive community for British artists, while also enabling them to reach a worldwide audience. When looking through my options, Folksy really stood out to me, both in its simplicity, and the freedom it offers artists.

Over on my Folksy shop, I am selling the same range of greetings cards with my colourful forest designs. However, hand-painting each individual card, as I did in 2020, was a huge undertaking – to make things easier in 2021, as I (hopefully) gain more hours in my actual job, I have decided to print the cards. I paint the designs in gouache, scan them and then print them onto card stock here at my home. Individual details are done by hand in pen before the cards are packaged and posted.

Alongside the greetings cards, I also sell my hand-crafted pieces. These will change with the seasons, as nature continues to inspire me and become incorporated into my craft. I am also always trying new art mediums, so my little shop will always be growing and evolving! I am currently working a lot with resin, but I really want to try polymer clay, lino-printing, and embroidery in the future.
